    Description

This listing is for an authentic vintage sample of antique barbed wire fencing.   This wire features a Harold J. Abbott patent dated January 19, 1943.  This wire is called "Abbott's Heavy Gauge - Close Set Double Kink Interlocked Loops - Australian WWII War Wire"  by collectors.  (ref. Hagemeier 1-E).(Hagemeier is vague on the line gauge and size of barbs).    This wire was originally developed as an Australian War wire.  After the war it was remodified with smaller line wire and barbs, with greater barb spacing for commercial use. This is the WWII era military variation of this wire.   This wire features a single round line wire.  Line wire is 11 gauge.   Line wire has off-setting kinks at barbing location.   A staple barb is placed in each kink, and ends of each staple crossed.   Loops are then bent across each other and ends of barbing wires wrapped around line wires on each side of kinks.  The war wire has larger barbs, much more closely spaced than the commercial variation.   Wire sample is at least 18" in length.    It shows age and use wear with light to moderate pitting.   There are six barbs, well spaced, and cut is well centered.  Commercial wires generally have two barbs in an 18" sample. There are no bent, broken, or missing barbs.  Wire is in  good used condition.
Last photos show this wire in comparison to a just post WWII variation;  and more recent two barb flattend line variation.  This listing is for the heavy WWII war wire only.
