GLIDDEN LARGE 8 GA ROUND WRAPPED WITH LARGE TWISTED OVAL - ANTIQUE BARBED WIRE

Description

This is a used sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This sample features a Joseph F. Glidden patent dated November 24, 1874. This wire is called "Glidden's Two Point Barb on Large eight gauge round line wrapped with large twisted oval line" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier listing not found - I never found use of a twisted oval line twisted with a round line). This wire features two twisted together line wires. Both lines are much heavier than normal gauge two line wires. Barbed line is round in cross section and is eight gauge. Non-Barbed line is oval and was twisted before wrapping with round line. Barbs are two pointed made by wrapping a round barbing wire twice around one line wire. This sample is 18" in length and has four barbs,. Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered. Wire shows age wear, with light to moderate pitting. There are no bent, broken, missing, or repaired barbs. Wire is in overall in good used condition. There are no off odors. Last photo shows this wire in comparison to normal two line barbed wire. I have listed other wires, both as auction and fixed price listings.
